Ronald McDonald House of Detroit

Message From Our President

Back in November of 2001, my then one year son was diagnosed with cancer. It was devastating news for my wife and I to hear. We needed to make life decisions quickly for our son. We spent five grueling days in the hospital with no sleep or rest. During this time we continued to make major life decisions for our son. That is when we were offered a chance to stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Detroit. It gave us the chance to regroup, reorganize and most of all spend precious time with our family.

The wonderful staff at the house made us feel like we were part of a special home away from home. Our family stayed at the house on and off for over two years while our son received treatment. It was during this time when I came to realize just how important this organization had become to not only our family but to the families of other sick children that we met during our stay. I vowed that one day, when my son was better, that I would give back to this wonderful organization.

After my son was out of treatment our family did volunteering work for the house. It was great since all of us could do it together. Then in 2004 I was asked to join the Board Of Directors for Ronald McDonald House of Detroit. I was honored and accepted the position.

Today, I am honored once again, to lead this great organization. As president of the Board of Directors for the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit and Charities of Southeast Michigan, it is my vision to bring the same feeling that my family experienced to every family that needs a home away from home when their child is sick. I heard someone say one time.

“No one will remember you for how much money you made, or how popular you were or even what job title you held. But there is one thing that people will always remember is how you made them feel”

You too can make a difference in your community. Click on our website and ask how you can make someone feel special today.
